Fort Dorchester High School is preparing all students for college and careers by providing a world-class educational experience. The academic programs of study at Fort Dorchester High School are designed to meet the needs of all students. Our academic offerings include a newly implemented DD2 Virtual Academy, College Prep courses, Early College Credit, Honors courses, AP Studies, ECPI, and Credit Recovery. Students are allowed the opportunity to earn transferable college credits through multiple programs. Our Early College program provides students the opportunity to earn a two-year Associate of Arts degree while still in high school with our partnership with Trident Technical College. Our Advanced Placement program continues to grow with more students pushing themselves to take rigorous courses and earn college credits. AP courses give our students more access to a college-focused curriculum. Fort Dorchester High School prepares college-bound students to excel.
Our school strives to mold academic, career, and technical studies while ensuring that every course is challenging and engaging. Students benefit from opportunities in engineering, biomedical science, robotics, computer programming, business entrepreneurship, marketing, sports medicine, and culinary arts. Fort Dorchester High School offers students an extensive selection in the arts to include art, photography, 3D art, media art, piano, chorus, orchestra, band, theater, dance, and steel drums. The Patriot band and fine arts programs are growing, involving more students each year, and developing award-winning artists. Our JROTC program is expanding and growing future leaders of our Armed Services. Courses through our partnership with ECPI even offer our students opportunities to earn credentials in computer science and programming. Fort Dorchester High School prepares career-focused students to excel.
We are proud of the meaningful progress made this year as our School Improvement Council (SIC) focused on targeted goals to strengthen our school community and daily operations. A major priority was increasing engagement among our Multilingual Learner (ML) families by raising awareness of their unique needs and creating more inclusive opportunities for involvement. In addition, SIC has worked to improve the overall student experience by addressing logistical challenges within the school day. Efforts to reduce lunch line congestion helped create a more efficient and supportive environment for both students and cafeteria staff. Similarly, initiatives to improve hallway traffic during class transitions aimed to enhance safety, reduce congestion, and promote punctuality, contributing to a more positive and structured school culture. Through these focused efforts, the School Improvement Council continues to support a school environment where all students and families feel informed, valued, and set up for success.
