Fort Dorchester High School eSports

Our Mission

The mission of Fort Dorchester High School Esports is to build a competitive gaming community that connects student gamers with one another, with organized Esports competitions, and with scholarship and prize opportunities that support their future goals. We strive to provide meaningful access to both solo and team-based competitive play while helping students engage responsibly with broader online gaming communities.

Through Esports, we are committed to developing well-rounded student leaders by fostering critical and strategic thinking, problem-solving, reflection, communication, teamwork, and leadership skills. Our program empowers students to grow both as competitors and as individuals, using gaming as a platform for personal and academic success.

About Us

In the spring of the 2021–2022 school year, Mr. Howard, a new Visual Arts teacher at Fort Dorchester High School, partnered with a group of passionate students — including Josiah S., Loie M., and Zachary M. — to launch the school’s first gaming club. Originally called the Video Gamerz Club, the organization had two primary goals:

  • To provide a welcoming space during ILT for students who enjoy video games to connect, collaborate, and build friendships.
  • To explore the formation of a competitive Esports team.

As interest grew, it quickly became clear that many students were especially excited about the competitive side of gaming. In response, the club evolved, and in the fall of 2022, the Fort Dorchester High School Esports Program was officially established.

Since its formation, the FDHS Esports program has grown to more than 20 dedicated members and continues to expand. The team is deeply appreciative of the generous donations and ongoing support from parents, the Fort Dorchester High School family, Dorchester School District Two, and the broader community. A special thanks to Jet’s Pizza in North Charleston for their continued support of our student gamers.
